- Dead Souls by NIN (orig. Joy Division)
- Days of Pearly Spencer by Marc Almond (orig. David McWilliams)
- A New England by Kirsty MacColl (orig Billy Bragg?)
- Dirty Old Town by The Pogues (orig. Ewan MacColl)
- Raindrops Keep Falling On My Head by Manic Street Preachers (orig BJ Thomas, written by Bacharach and David)
Or, arguably, you could say that my favourite cover versions are the genuinely terrible ones that Duran Duran could never help themselves from putting on B-sides, without which my pre-teen self may never have thought to seek out the Velvet Underground any would have paid less attention to David Bowie and Cockney Rebel. Doesn't excuse Thank You, mind.
Out of everything ever, for the whole of time?
Tall order. Umm. Can I have five?
- The Divine Comedy's cover of Kraftwerk's Radioactivity
- Franz Ferdinand's cover of LCD Soundsystem's All My Friends
- Diamanda Galas's cover of Screamin' Jay Hawkins's I Put A Spell On You
- Ani DiFranco's cover of Amazing Grace
- Scott Walker's cover of Jacques Brel's Jackie
Will that do for starters?

Yes - A New England is a fine choice.
And another one I've just thought of - Paris Motel's version of Nick Cave's Red Right Hand.
But I really want to do my own cover version of Pulp's Bad Cover Version. Just to be silly.
