Albums of the Year?

We're getting into lists territory, it being mid-December.

My album of the year hasn't changed since I first heard it back in January (there's a clue for you).

What's yours? Why? Maybe you have more than one?

Its gotta be Oceansize's 'The Frame'. Beautiful, powerful and intelligent, you can't beat these guys.

Indie-schmindie? 8-S

Beirut - The Flying Club Cup
Radiohead - In Rainbows
LCD Soundsystem - Sound of Silver

difficult choice...

Hello from a semi-retired music journalist making a living uploading the news for a general Irish audience. For me it has to be 'In Rainbows' because Radiohead will always be the best band of its generation, and because 'Jigsaws falling into pieces' is this wonderful track where one has the impression that it is that great rock band that has experimented with electronica and assorted other things playing one last great rock song, perhaps just for the grateful audience's benefit. Honourable mention to The Arcade Fire, who impressed again with 'Neon Bible' though it was not the instant classic of their debut. Best wishes. Bill, Dublin.

I'd have to name three equally great albums:

Shout Out Louds - Our Ill Wills
The Shins - Wincing The Night Away
Aereogramme - My Heart Has A Wish...

Best regards from a Swiss music blogger

Music Of The Moment

No bother to look to the other ways because these are the greats:

1. Radiohead "In Rainbows' (No doubt!)
2. Poison The Well - Versions (Wicked!)
3. Amy Winehouse - Back to Black
4. Richard Hawley - Lady's Bridge (Classic!)
5. Soulive - No Place Like Soul

LCD Soundsystem - Sound Of Silver

Purely because I've listened to it and loved it more than anything else this year.

I'll do a top 20 at some point this week. Watch out too for the 12 Albums Of Christmas feature, should it appear...

my selection:

1. In Rainbows (2CD) / Radiohead
2. Neon Bible / The Arcade Fire
3. Kala / M.I.A.
4. Back To Black / Amy Winehouse
5. Made of Bricks / Kate Nash

For me the two outstanding albums this year are:

* Kings of Leon - Because Of The Times
* Porcupine Tree- Fear of a Blank Planet

Special mention to Eddie Vedder's new album too (Into The Wild soundtrack).

my albums of 2007 with no particular order:
low - drums and guns
radiohead - in rainbows
the field - from here we go sublime
of montreal - hissing fauna...
lcd soundsystem - sound of silver
efterklang- parades
pj harey - white chalk
the twilight sad -14 autumns
turin brakes - dark on fire
A place to bury strangers
the national - boxer
maps - we can create
the kissaway trai
coco rosie - the adventures of...
brmc - baby81
battles

graet year then !!!!

It looks like Radiohead - In Rainbows has a good chance to be the album of the year:)

Great albums this year:

1. Imani Coppola - The Black & White Album
2. Siobhan Donaghy - Ghosts
3. M.I.A. - Kala
4. Tori Amos - American Doll Posse

Björk's Volta gets an honorable mention for having a couple amazing tracks, but was a disappointment overall.

It's Arcade Fire for me. Radiohead second.

Great Year with so many new bands. However, the ones I just keep returning to are:-

Blonde Redhead - 23
Interpol - Our love to Admire
The National - Boxer
the Rakes - ten New Messages

The Rakes sneak into the best of the year. Just the way good British ska/punk should be. Quite simply, I can't stop listening to it.

Right now, I'm thinking...

1) "In Rainbows" - Radiohead
2) "Baby Machine" - This Et Al
3) "Curses" - Future of the Left
4) "The Magic Position" - Patrick Wolf
5) "Citrus" - Asobi Seksu

It's subject to change, obviously. ; ) .

Arcade Fire - Neon Bible
Justice - Cross
Radiohead - In Rainbows
LCD Soundsystem - Sound of Silver
Maps - We Can Create
The Rakes - Ten New Messages

So we're going to compile a top 20 based on all of us submitting a top 20 each and then having a big fight. Expect the list up early next week.
